The Brothers Educational Union

The Brothers Educational Union (BEU), headquartered at Palayamkottai-a city popularly known ‘The Oxford of the South’ -was founded in 1942. Having “Learning is the only way to change” as its motto, the BEU has recently celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of its foundation. The BEU has been managed by the Society of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus – an indigenous religious congregation that has widely spread its educational and social tentacles in more than 9 states of India. We are proud to go on record that in its 80 years of dedicated service to the cause of education, it has been successfully offering the student community – a bundle of services to sharpen their learning skills, to take public examinations with ease and confidence to inculcate values of life.

The literary journey of the BEU has been full steam with the collaboration of more than 12000 educational institutions both in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. On the top of its monumental educational service, is the preparation and the provision of question papers for students sitting for the public examinations, model question papers, books of exercise and other educational paraphernalia.

Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi the poet par excellence eulogises the provision of education to the poor calling it sacred. Responding to his fervent appeal, the BEU takes it upon as bounden duty to make education affordable and accessible to the students of Primary, Middle, High and Higher Secondary Schools of both streams and schools based on CBSE syllabi. It has silently been stirring up a revolution in the field of publication of educational materials produced by a team of teachers with experience and expertise.

Responding to ever changing times, it publishes study materials for students aspiring to take NEET, SAT, MAT and other competitive examinations at competitive prices. It encourages the profound provision of quality education through educational institutions to students dreaming to make a new world in the light of deep and wide learning. With the enthused hope the publication of BEU would stand in good stead, it salutes all the collaborators associated with the BEU over the years.

A publication in the name of Caussanel

The ‘Servant of God’, Rev. Fr. Adrian Caussanel was a French Jesuit missionary who came to the Southern part of India in 1888. He learnt the culture and language of the people and workd as a messenger of Christ in the present Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi,  Virudhunagar and Madurai districts.

Hailed as the “Dragon of the South,” he defended the rights of the oppressed and the marginalized. He empowered the voiceless through education, evangelization and social upliftment.

He recognized that education for both genders without discrimination was vital in promoting a dignified life for the downtrodden. As a result, he established schools and colleges. His empathy for the emaciated poor led to the development of an ointment called “Caussanel Kalimbu” which proved panacea for all ailments.

He left no stone unturned in his efforts to reach the unreached. To continue his mission he founded the Congregation of the ‘Brothers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus’ in 1903. The Brothers have been devoting themselves to various ministries especially education ministry in response to the signs and demands of the times.

The audacity of Fr. Adrian Caussanel stemmed from his profound spirituality and deeply held values. He preached the values of God through his charitable activities and education  which paved way to social transformation. Inspired by his vision the brothers were promoting his mission to establish and patronize his name by initiating a guide with study materials for the student community such as “Caussanel Guide”.
